The Power of Speaking: A Journey of Lifelong Learning

Why You Should Start Speaking: A Lifelong Journey of Passion and Mastery

Hey there folks, it’s Andrew Griffiths here. I still believe in the power of speaking. Even after all these years, it’s a journey of lifelong learning. I’ve been a professional speaker for most of my life. It all started when I had my dive shop at the age of seventeen, teaching people how to dive. Fast forward to today, I now teach people how to grow their businesses, become more successful, write a book, or step into the world of professional speaking.

The Lifelong Journey of Speaking

Speaking—whether through training, workshops, or standing in front of thousands of people—has always been a significant part of my life. Recently, I’ve been asked if, considering how competitive speaking has become, I still encourage people to get on stage.

Why Speaking Is More Relevant Than Ever

And my answer is a resounding, yes. Without a doubt, I’m the number one advocate for picking up the microphone and getting in front of an audience. Speaking is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Yes, it’s difficult and scary. I’ve dealt with nerves, imposter syndrome, and everything in between. But speaking is a lifetime journey—something you never truly master.

The Myth of Instant Mastery

It’s not as simple as learning how to speak once and then suddenly being awesome. Great speakers are always refining their craft. And while some might say they don’t need any prep and just wing it—well, that’s not the hallmark of a professional speaker. The real pros are constantly learning, improving, and tweaking their approach, even after decades of experience.

Always Improving, Always Growing

At 58, I’m still learning and having conversations with other speakers about stagecraft, timing, delivery, and the use of tech in presentations. Speaking ignites passion, and yes, it’s hard. But if you want to do something that challenges and inspires you, something that creates opportunities and lets you make a difference—then get on stage and become a speaker.

The Long Haul

Just be prepared for the long haul. Don’t expect to master it over a weekend. True speakers understand they’ll never fully “master” it, but they get better with each experience. That’s the power of speaking.

Start Your Speaking Journey Today

So, to everyone wondering if they should take the plunge, my advice is simple: yes, pick up the microphone. Start your speaking journey, or reconnect with it if you’ve stepped away. There’s something extraordinary about helping a room full of people, solving their problems, entertaining them, or even just making the world a little bit better.

Cheers,

Andrew Griffiths
